About Speciality

The Interventional Cardiology speciality of the Center for Excellence of Heart and Vascular Care that performs specialized catheter-based treatment of heart diseases. This field diagnoses and treats patients with coronary artery disease, acquired structural heart disease (diseases of the heart valves and walls), congenita heart defects, and vascular diseases using non-surgical and catheter-based techniques.

Using cutting-edge technology and the newest techniques and complex advancements in this field of medicine — such as cardiac catheterization, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), and mitral valve replacement and repairs — interventional cardiologists perform delicate life-saving procedures to provide patients an enhanced quality to life.

Specialized Clinics

What are the advantages of TAVR over surgical aortic valve replacement?

TAVR has many advantages over surgical valve replacement, especially in older or other high-risk patients. TAVR is much less invasive, it avoids cardiopulmonary bypass surgery (CABG) and general anaesthesia, and it has a shorter hospital stay with faster recovery.

What are the causes of aortic valve disease?

Aortic valve diseases are primarily caused due to age. Risk factors for coronary heart disease like poor diet and exercise, smoking, high blood pressure and cholesterol can induce this disease as well. A healthy lifestyle is the best way to avoid any heart disease.

Who is an interventional cardiologist?

Interventional cardiologists are trained in cardiology and then continue for additional training in interventional cardiology, allowing them to perform minimally invasive procedures involving small incisions and catheters instead of traditional surgery. These procedures are used to diagnose and treat diseases such as heart valve disorders, coronary artery disease, congenital heart disease, and peripheral artery disease.
