Department Overview


Gastroenterology and hepatology is the sub-specialty of medicine for evaluation of disorders relating to the digestive tract, liver, biliary tract and pancreas. Digestive tract disorders include those affecting the esophagus, stomach, small and large intestine. Biliary tract includes the gall bladder and the bile duct. The department caters to a wide range of disorders including heartburn, difficulty in swallowing or pain during swallowing, dyspepsia or indigestion, peptic ulcer disease, evaluation of abdominal pain, unexplained weight loss, jaundice, loose stools, blood or mucus in stools, evaluation of anemia, overt bleeding, fatty liver, chronic liver disease, portal hypertension and its complications and cancers related to the GI tract or hepatobiliary system. The department is equipped with latest state of the art endoscopy suite with high end endoscopy machines for upper and lower GI endoscopy, ERCP and EUS capable of basic and advanced therapeutic endoscopy.
